Am I a bad person?

My mini fridge broke the other day, and I really didn't want to have to haul it to the dump (more realistically just dump it in a dumpster on campus, but I digress). So I put it on craigslist for free and put it on the curb with a sign that said free. Never said it didn't work. An hour later and it's gone. Does this make me a bad person? In my defense. I think anyone picking up what appears to be a nice mini fridge off craigslist for free HAS to expect it to be broken.

This is such a resounding NO I question if you are even serious. Free could mean for just scrap value. And you never know, the person could successfully repair it.

Somebody could repair it, get scrap value for it. The takers probably needed the money, so no you're in the right!

Nah, your'e not a bad person at all for that. Worst case scenario, someone else ended up with a broken refrigerator for free that they can haul to the dumpster. Maybe they fixed it, maybe they scrapped it, who knows. Maybe they'll post it on Craigslist for free and it'll get picked up by some other guy, who then discovers its broken, and puts it on Craigslist for free. And then it'll go full circle and somehow you'll end up getting it back again and you'll write a book about it and make millions of dollars. (probably not though)

I don't think so. It might have been better to say that it needs repair. But at least you didn't say it works.

In any case I love CL for this kind of stuff. I've given away 15 year old beds on the free section just like you did the mini fridge. Just chuck bed on street and put up a free ad and boom, bed is gone in no time!

For a lot of junk, putting it on craigslist for $20 is the best way to go. Somebody recently "talked me down" to $15 for a rusty, bent up, catback that would have been a huge hassle to take to a scrap yard as my truck is currently not street legal.

You are not bad IF you had put a sign that also said in smaller letters "Broken/Not in Working Condition"

But good or bad is not my judgement, its your personal beliefs :)
